Botan Joshi Judo Kai is our Women’s Judo program. Botan is the Japanese name for Peony, it is symbolic of bravery, honor, and good fortune in the Japanese culture.
The class is directed and instructed by Sensei Janine who has practiced judo for over 30 years and is currently a sandan (3rd degree black belt). She was a former member of the U.S. Judo Team representing the U.S. internationally.
This is the perfect introductory class to judo where you can start off with zero experience. We focus on strength exercises, safe-falling, judo-specific drills, throws and ground techniques such as turn overs, pins, chokes and arm bars. This is not a competition or tournament-focused class.
You will learn to utilize the two main principles of judo to strengthen yourself physically, mentally and spiritually:
1. “Seiryoku Zenyo” – Minimum effort and maximum efficiency
2. “Jita Kyoei” – Mutual benefit for self and others
Feel free to bring your kids if you need to- they can watch from the lobby and you can keep your eyes on them through a glass door and window. Feel free to drop by and observe from the lobby or jump in and try out a class!
